WE ARE STILL HERE: URBAN NATIVE LIFE

Artwork by Steven Paul Judd @stevenpauljudd

Immerse yourself inside the lives of urban Indigenous living in New York City.

New York City has the largest number of American Indians and Alaska Natives of any location within the United States, with a population of 111,749 Native Americans out of the total population of 8,175,133 New Yorkers.*

Urban Indigenous Americans are in a constant struggle to reconnect with their culture, ceremonies and closeness to nature against the backdrop of one of the largest cities in the world.  In “We Are Still Here” you will witness the power of urban Indians connecting to their culture and pushing it forward for the future generations to protect, the earth, the water, and each other.  This series will serve as an inspirational acknowledgement to honor the youth and American Indian populations that are rising up to reclaim the spaces that once belonged to their ancestors.

This series will celebrate the food, language, activism, traditions, music, art, dance, and fashion of Urban Indigenous New Yorkers.  Each episode will follow amazing entrepreneurs, activists and artists, take a look inside their home, their office and the work that they are doing while honoring their heritage and living in the Big Apple.
